Cityzen Makes His 2020 Return to CYB3RPVNK with Underground House “Watch Me”

After a mysterious hiatus, Cityzen returns to CYB3RPVNK with “Watch Me,” his party-ready first single of 2020. The track delivers deep, driving and bouncy basslines with plenty of percussive melodies and a catchy vocal riff; Cityzen began developing this sound last fall with tracks like the funky house anthem “Crunk” and “Unicorns on a Rocket Launcher.” His career may have only started last year with his debut on R3HAB’s CYB3RPVNK, but he’s already distinguished himself as one of the scene’s most promising up and comers. Let’s hope this is the first of more new releases from our favorite red glasses-wearing artist!

Underground House Music by Cityzen

Although not much is known about Cityzen yet, we can be extremely positive about three noticeable attributes: his affinity for the color red, unique glasses, and his desire to give people the intense beats that one would imagine hearing on the metallic streets of a futuristic metropolitan. Perhaps Cityzen can live in the past and the future at the same time, giving him the ability to merge vintage hardware like Moog synthesizers with futuristic house rhythms of the modern age. His sound continues to evolve with every newly released track, from his debut single “Sirius” to previous “Planet Rock” and now “Misomaniac.” Cityzen is on the verge of something huge and previously unimagined – and all the world can do is wait. Armed with his sparkling glasses and affinity for the color red, Cityzen brings to life a crossover of old and new that will become the unique sound of the next generation.

Kaskade and Project 46 Release “Chains”

Kaskade (c) Mark Owens

Kaskade & Project 46 Release “Chains,” a Follow-Up to Their 2013’s Hit “Last Chance”

Artists: Kaskade & Project 46
Title: Chains
Label: Arkade
Release date: May 22, 2020

Download / Stream

Kaskade and Project 46 once again joined forces for their new track “Chains,” a cathartic sonic journey through the myriad of emotions that are so prevalent in our lives today. It begins with angelic vocals crooning the line “Running out of ways to run away, I cover it up, but I can’t escape,” setting the stage for a progression of gentle melodies and rolling basslines into a bouncy, big-room influenced climax. “Chains” pulls at the heartstrings of anyone who has felt trapped or restrained in life, either by others or themselves. By the time the track’s drop comes, it’s as if the chains themselves have been released, and the weight has been lifted. “Chains” is Kaskade & Project 46’s follow up single to 2013’s “Last Chance,” the opening track from Kaskade’s “Atmosphere” album and Project 46’s most-streamed single to date.

Project 46

As a household name in electronic music for nearly two decades, Kaskade needs no introduction. His list of achievements is a mile long: 11 studio albums, 7 GRAMMY nominations, the first solo electronic dance artist to sell out both Navy Pier in Chicago and the Staples Center in Los Angeles, the first DJ to ever secure a Las Vegas residency, and the first electronic artist to headline Coachella. Less tangible but even more important has been his influence on dance music tastes and culture for generations of listeners. Often Kaskade is one of the artists who introduced now-veteran listeners to the genre, and such fans are usually fans for life. In 2019, he worked with multi-award winner Meghan Trainor on “With You” and Gorgon City on “Go Slow,” among solo releases, such as “My Light,” “Come On,” as well as official remixes for the likes of Alicia Keys, Jennifer Lopez, and Gwen Stefani earlier.

Canadian duo Ryan Henderson and Thomas Shaw, better known as Project 46, is known for their melodic, progressive sound that never fails to inspire and uplift listeners. They began Project 46 in 2011 and were active until 2016, with releases on Ultra Records, Monstercat, Armada, Mixmash, and collaborations such as “Last Chance” with Kaskade, “Collide” with Laidback Luke, “Crime” with Avicii, “Daphne” with Paul Oakenfold, and “Home” with Feenixpawl, to name a few. 2020 marks the comeback of Project 46, and we are looking forward to more beautiful, vocal-driven dance tracks coming from the talented duo later this year!

R&B / Neo-soul singer Andrea Capozzoli serves up a powerful “Last Goodbye”

Massachusetts multi-talented performer delivers a message of standing up for yourself

TAUNTON, Mass. | May 1, 2020 – Singer-songwriter Andrea Capozzoli serves up a powerful message in her new R&B/neo-soul inspired single titled “Last Goodbye“. A message of empowerment and standing up for yourself is conveyed in a funky, groovy, delicious performance, highlighting her powerhouse vocals. The Deli Magazine premiered the track, complimenting her “velvety, assertive vocals” citing it as “a prime example of the ever-lasting power of R&B/soul” even in the modern age.

“ ‘Last Goodbye’ was inspired by watching a close friend go through a bad breakup,” shared Capozzoli. “All I could think about was hoping that it would be the end of that relationship because it was a toxic situation. In my mind, I was hoping this was her last goodbye. If you feel like things aren’t right, don’t stay because we all deserve happiness in a relationship.” The result is a powerful, moody deliverance of standing your ground, living your life, and knowing when it’s time to move on; an ode of vibrant independence and celebration, and a beacon of hope to those who remain in toxic situations.

A multi-talented vocalist, trumpet player, and songwriter, Capozzoli isn’t afraid to show off her talent whether in the studio or on stage, weaving seamlessly between soul, R&B, and jazz tunes. As an Assistant Professor in the voice department of Berklee College of Music, she helps guide young artists to find their own voice – both literally and figuratively – before embarking on their own musical careers. Named “Female R&B Artist of the Year” at the New York International Music Festival in 2004, she has gained respect across the scene for her energetic performances and dynamic vocals.

She gives a heavy nod of appreciation to her band, composed of Dmitry Ishenko (bass), Dave Ross (guitar), and Rob Mitzner (drums) who also produced/engineered the track. “I’ve been working with this same group of musicians for many years and they help the arrangements take shape and give life and vitality to the songs,” said Capozzoli. While she writes all the lyrics and music, she invites her bandmates to add own flavor and flair, both in recording and live performances. “Most times I like to work with an idea to create the main chorus or hook of the song when I’m in the lyric writing process. If you don’t have a good hook, you ain’t got shit.”

In celebration of the release, she also shared a peek behind-the-scenes, with a DIY-studio video to accompany the single.

“The producer of this track is my longtime drummer Rob Mitzner. He asked me to contribute a tune for his studio demo reel, so we recorded and filmed “Last Goodbye”. We ended up liking the song so much that Rob suggested putting it out as a lead-in to my next full length album. You can see how we tracked the drums, bass, guitars, keys and vocals. I think it really invites the audience to get an inside look at the recording process.”

“Last Goodbye” is out on all major digital retailers now, including SpotifyBandcamp, and Amazon Music. Capozzoli is finalizing a full-length album, planned for release later this year, continuing to showcase her unique blend of her RnB, neo-soul and jazz fusion vibes. Based out of Massachusetts, she regularly performs across New England, New York, and her hometown of Pittsburgh, hoping to schedule an east coast run of shows for next year.

Soul/R&B and jazz powerhouse Andrea Capozzoli is a multi-talented vocalist, trumpet player, pianist, songwriter, producer and arranger, as well as the recipient of “Female R&B Artist of the Year” award from the New York International Music Festival. Originally from Pittsburgh, Andrea got an early start as a professional musician, studying classical and jazz voice, and trumpet. In 2009, Andrea wrote, arranged and produced her debut album entitled So Real, which spans many genres with its eclectic appeal. After receiving the Berklee College of Music Faculty Recording Grant, she recorded an LP entitled Lessons, featuring her arrangements of songs by Cole Porter, Irving Berlin and Horace Silver. Her travels have included performances at the prestigious Beantown Jazz Festival in Boston, The Blue Note and Iridium in New York, and many festivals and tours throughout the US and Europe. She has opened for the likes of Sister Sledge and Jessica Simpson, and shared the stage with jazz and soul legends Slide Hampton, Bernard Purdie, Ronnie Laws and Erik Kloss. She also had the distinct honor of performing and arranging a gospel version of “America the Beautiful” for President Barack Obama in Washington D.C. Last year, she had the privilege of performing for honorary doctorate recipients Steely Dan at the Berklee College of Music Commencement concert. In addition to being an accomplished performer, Andrea is a faculty member at Berklee as an Assistant Professor in the voice department. Her specialties include jazz and R&B improvisation courses as well as sight-singing ensembles. Her new single “Last Goodbye”, drops in April, and she is hard at work on a full-length album which will be released in late 2020.

Dabin New Single ‘Hope it Hurts’ Out Now

Building upon the momentum accrued over the past year, Dabin’s latest release, ‘Hope It Hurts’, maintains his winning streak and serves as a remarkable follow-up to his previous single ‘Holding On’. In just a few short years, the rising DJ/producer’s career has skyrocketed, catapulting him to stardom in record time. With an instrument-based background in piano, drums, and guitar, and stylistic influences stemming from indie, folk, and blues, it is clear that his expertise in the field of music is wide-ranging. This is reflected in his eclectic portfolio of work, and even more so in ‘Hope It Hurts’, where he seamlessly blends Essenger’s emotional vocals with uplifting build-ups and drops.

‘Hope It Hurts’ begins with a melancholic acoustic riff that effortlessly transitions into Essenger’s resonant vocals. The song builds upon itself, with the drop releasing tension and acting as a prime contrast to the stripped nature of the first half of the track. Weaving a sonic tapestry of imaginatively fine-tuned noises, sounds, instruments, and varying vocal pitches, Dabin is able to consistently evoke raw emotion in an unparalleled fashion. Harkening back to the alternative rock of the mid-2000’s, Dabin’s ability to blend this style of music with dance elements is a treat for the ears.

Dabin’s seasoned career has gained him much popularity since he began producing in 2011. Top highlights include his ‘Two Hearts’ LP, which received a 2018 JUNO nomination for Best Electronic Album of the Year, and its follow-up, the ‘Wild Youth’ LP, both of which placed him on the map in the dance music landscape. His sold-out 2019 headlining ‘Wild Youth’ tour is also a testament to the innovatively immersive live performance he puts on with each show, which includes several instruments such as drum pads, the electronic guitar, and synthesizers. As a highly sought after act, he has performed at festivals across the country including EDC Vegas, Electric Forest, Nocturnal Wonderland, Electric Zoo and Lost Lands to name a few. Dabin supported ILLENIUM as both a member of his ‘Awake’ live band, and as an opening act on his ‘Ascend’ tour, and his dexterity with the guitar has landed him a sponsorship with Fender.

Renaissance – Album Release by Apashe

Apashe makes his majestic return with the long-awaited album, Renaissance. The producer’s trademark sound, characterized by a larger-than-life approach rife with grandeur and orchestral characteristics, permeates throughout his new release. Out now, Renaissance is available through all digital platforms.

John De Buck’s latest 13-track release marks the second full-length album for the producer on Kannibalen Records. To take his sonic artistry for Renaissance to the next level, its compositions were played and recorded by a Prague-based 69-piece orchestra in their entirety. The producer also enlists an eclectic mix of talent for the album ranging from Slumberjack to Tech N9ne, Wifisfuneral, Wasiu & Instasamka alongside many more. Having released an array of singles from the forthcoming album one-by-one, ‘Good News’, ‘Distance’, ‘Uebok’, and ‘Insane’ & ‘Dead’ have already received a significant amount of traction since their respective release dates with each drumming up hype for Renaissance’s eventual drop. Two of the aforementioned singles have music videos directed by Adrian Villagomez, the director also behind Apashe’s upcoming documentary that will explore the making of Renaissance. Billeis’ 3D cover art’s focus on statuesque skeletal structure and its gold color palette perfectly encapsulate dark and gothic elements, romance, and opulence just as Apashe’s album does so effortlessly as well. At its core, Renaissance is an amalgam of crafted sound finely tuned and laboriously curated by Apashe himself.

‘Classical music is so pure and electronic music is so raw, I have always loved to fuse them together. For this album I tried to do what has barely been done before in the electronic music scene: Compose with a symphonic orchestra, extract its epicness and delicacy, then blend it with something big and rough’– Apashe

The pioneering Montreal-based DJ/producer innovatively incorporates a mixture of both electronic and classical music into his work, uniquely traversing the seemingly rigid boundaries of genre with ease. The seasoned Belgian native has had quite the illustrious career since signing to Kannibalen Records just nine short years ago, with an impressive 140 million Spotify streams to-date. Apashe has seen great mainstream success with his music regularly featured in big-budget movie trailers and brand-name TV commercials like Adidas, GoPro, MTV, HBO, and Netflix. Key performances from the versatile artist include several headlining tours as well as desirable slots at ADE, Electric Forest, Nocturnal Wonderland, and Tomorrowland.

The rhythm and flow of Apashe’s Renaissance LP is nothing short of impressive. The unique blend of dance music elements with orchestral compositions and urban and indie influences is quite unlike anything else in music at the moment. Riding on the wave of successes, Apashe’s long-awaited latest offering organically builds upon his artistic vision and brings it full circle.

John Digweed, the unwavering English mainstay, continues to create, evolve and produce a level of dedicated production that is hard to match with his newly released QUATTRO, out now via his own imprint, Bedrock Records. The monumental effort spans four discs, mixed entirely by Digweed himself, and serves as testament to his status as one of electronic music’s finest genre blending connoisseurs, as well as his inherent knack for soundtracking sonically-enriching journeys. Split into four discs, each is reflective of a distinct creative vision. QUATTRO is out now across all streaming platforms, Bandcamp, CD and Vinyl via Bedrock Records.

Beginning with SoundscapeQUATTRO entrances the listener, providing elongated cinematic sounds that incite true, raw emotion. With 11 unique productions and remixes, Tempo follows and sees the second disc of the album take a different approach from atmospheric breaks through deep techno  and pacing hypnotic techno grooves. Redux, the penultimate mix takes it up a notch with breathtaking remixes that build upon one another, creating a flurry of deep house, techno, and acid. Nick Muir, fellow Bedrock Records producer and longtime friend, lends his expertise in Juxtaposition, the fourth and final mix, which brings the release full-circle with ambient soundscapes that feel more experimental in nature.

To maximize anticipation for the release and as a special treat to his loyal fans, Digweed took to Instagram to unveil an exclusive vinyl unboxing video that showcased the stunning design and sonic craftsmanship that was poured into the project. A week prior, Digweed was among the first to livestream an exclusive 2-hour long set broadcasted directly from his home. Having taken nine months to create, QUATTRO truly is a labor of love for Digweed. Spanning 45 exclusive tracks, the album serves as a stellar follow-up and successor to 2018’s Bedrock XX, the last four-disc album he produced to celebrate Bedrock Records’ 20th anniversary. Perfect for any collector or vinyl aficionado, QUATTRO also comes in a signed limited-edition 5×12” vinyl that includes 20 hand-selected tracks from the album itself. Matador Releases ‘Bush’ from EP Radar

Matador returns to the release radar with his second single of the year, ‘Bush’. His latest offering of the new decade follows the accomplished musician’s more recent work – including his ambient album project ‘Tuesday’ and his harder-hitting RUKUS release, ‘Desire’. ‘Bush’ is out now via Astralwerks Records as a part of their ‘White Label’ series, with pre-orders for the vinyl available now.
Kicking off with a filtered, pulsating synth, ‘Bush’ is a masterful lesson in creatively crafted tension. The track’s uncompromisingly infectious rhythm effectively highlights Matador’s meticulous four-on-the-floor approach to riveting techno. The seven-and-a-half minute production’s sharp synths paired with relentless rolling baselines create a devilishly heady effect, ultimately leaving the listener wanting more from the revered producer.
Influenced by a number of genres at an early age, Gavin Lynch’s passion for music has been long-standing, inciting the versatile Dublin-based producer to pursue his hobby of DJing. After being taken under close friend and collaborator Richie Hawtin’s wing, Matador’s underground hobby fast became a full-time career with his name rapidly gaining traction in the techno world. The Irish native has had the chance to perform at several international dance staples throughout the years including AwakeningsTomorrowland, and Ultra Music Festival to name a few. In addition, he has received continuous support from the likes of renowned industry heavyweights Carl Cox and Adam Beyer, with his RUKUS imprint enabling him to not only enhance and expound upon his musical vision unhindered, but also foster promising, up-and-coming talent.
Matador’s latest release sees the venerated techno producer make his Astralwerks Records’ ‘White Label’ series debut. An impressive feat, he will be in good company with the likes of Undercatt, Little Death and Jean-Michel Jarre, to name a few. Sure to be a dance floor hit, the propelling ‘Bush’ serves as a prime example of what’s in store for Matador in 2020.

Matador Bio

A revolutionary live artist and DJ with a shining reputation for versatility, Gavin Lynch’s outstanding technical knowhow means no compromise on quality and his ‘Matador’ moniker has delighted dance floors for the past decade. Raised on Motown, progressing to Guns N Roses, Pink Floyd, Orbital, Kasabian, the teenage Matador was inspired by electronic giants Richie Hawtin, Adam Beyer and Jeff Mills. Having completed a degree in sound engineering and honing his musical skill, he was boosted from underground DJ status when Hawtin snapped him up for his Minus imprint, and a series of releases and high-profile remix work quickly followed. A resident at the infamous ENTER events in Ibiza and worldwide; the Irish producer has toured non-stop since 2012 playing everything from major festivals such as Awakenings, Creamfields, Neopop, Time Warp, Tomorrowland, and Ultra Music Festival, to club shows and music conferences such as ADE and MMW.

Matador cites career highlights such as a BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix in 2014, being part of the CNTRL Tour – A College Campus Tour in the US in 2015, and his role as a Brand Ambassador for the MODEL 1 analog professional performance mixer since its launch in 2016. Industry recognition and awards include ‘Best Electronic Live Performer’ at the Ibiza DJ Awards twice, and featuring on Resident Advisor’s ‘Top 20 Live Acts’ for three years. In 2016 he launched his own label ‘RUKUS’ with a series of events and parties to accompany it, releasing and supporting music from emerging and established artists within the electronic genre. His remix of Oxia’s ‘Domino’ reached no.1 in the Beatport All Genre Chart and was also their no.1 techno track for 2017.

Stepping into the world of television sync, his track ‘Inceptions’ was featured in Sky One’s hit series ‘Strike Back’ and has garnered interest in the Matador sound across the wider music industry and sound-scape scene. Airline giants British Airways featured his ‘Sunrise Mix’ in conjunction with Deeper Sounds for their in-flight entertainment system throughout 2018, and in 2019, presented by Mixmag, Matador streamed a sumptuous melodic techno set live from the Hollywood Hills. His electrifying musical output spans genres and formats.

From his vinyl only series ‘Cyclone’ firmly rooted in techno, to his exquisite stream only, ambient album ‘Tuesday’, Matador’s passion for sound has no boundaries. His talent as a solo artist and his work on collaborative projects have propelled him to the forefront of today’s ever-changing, fast paced industry, and his performance with Zurich’s prestigious Tonhalle Orchestra highlighted his dexterity as a truly authentic musician. As an ardent equipment enthusiast, 2020 sees the launch of Matador’s podcast focusing on studio gear and featuring interviews with touring artists, tech talk, music, and everything in between. His new live show is also in the works – Live 2.0 – presenting a catalogue of new music from studio to stage.
